J. Roger Antiques, London, has been selling fine, small, period furniture since Carolyn Bayley’s mother Joan Roger started the business in the 1960s. Concentrating on the late 18th century, the Sheraton Period, popular because of the elegance and simplicity of design and the colour and figuring of the wood.
For instance in our Sold Archive you will see a pair of George III mahogany crossbanded half round tables of the Sheraton Period, c1790. They are much sought after as they give a room a balanced elegance when placed either side of the fireplace or perhaps either side of something like the late 18th century Bookshelf with shaped sides the shelves and a cupboard below.
Our collection included a lovely pair of George III demi lune mahogany card tables, crossbanded, with oval satinwood paterae decorated with penwork, standing on elegant square, tapered legs of outstanding colour of the Sheraton period c1790 for sale
Sofa Tables of the late 18th century have also always been desirable..the best models have slim proportions, end supports and high stretchers. They are so versatile and can be used behind a sofa, as a dressing table or as a centre or dining table, you will find many of these in the Archive.
