“Fame Decorating Shakespeare’s Tomb.”

Silk embroidery in an oval frame representing the Allegorical figure of Fame paying homage to Shakespeare’s genius by scattering flowers on his symbolic tomb marked Shakesper. This is an unusual subject .

Different spelling was routinely used in the 17th and 18th century .

The silk embroidery is in excellent condition, in subtle shades of green ,brown and cream , the face and arms beautifully painted on silk . C 1795
