History
The sofa table was an important piece of furniture in demand in the last quarter of the 18th century & first quarter of the 19th century. Sheraton has an illustration in his “Drawing Book” of one in front of a sofa that a stranger may more clearly see the use of such tables.
Intended initially for the drawing room, parlor or library to read, draw on or write upon, the sofa table was often used as a practical substitute for the dining table.
Beautifully made, practical and versatile The sofa table remains today a highly collected antique.
